3.6. CSS.

  • Inline CSS. A <style> tag is inserted above the video selector with this code in it. Use it to style the items within. Below is the CSS for LondonParkour.com video rotator:
<style>
    .rotator .current {
        position: relative;
    }

    .rotator .current a {
        border-bottom: 5px solid;
        color: #ffffff;
    }

    .rotator .current a:after {
        display: inline-block;
        content: ' ';
        background-image: url("data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg' viewBox='0 0 24 24' fill='%23ffffff' %3E%3Cpath d='M4,11V13H16L10.5,18.5L11.92,19.92L19.84,12L11.92,4.08L10.5,5.5L16,11H4Z'/%3E%3C/svg%3E");
        background-size: 2rem 2rem;
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
        background-position: center;
        height: 100%;
        width: 2.5rem;
        position: absolute;
        top: 0px;
        fill: #ffffff;
    }

    .rotator-content > :not(.hidden) {
        opacity: 1;
        animation: fade 1s linear;
    }

    @keyframes fade {
        0%   { opacity: 0 }
        100% { opacity: 1 }
    }

</style>

css

3.7. Javascript.

  • Javascript. Added into the footer of the page. Example is the code used for the video-rotator on LondonParkour.com:
<script defer onload type="text/javascript">

    // VIDEO ROTATOR - Menu Items
    let items = document.querySelectorAll(".rotator-menu li");
    let pause = false;

    for (let elem of items) {

        elem.firstChild.addEventListener('mouseenter', () => {
            clear_all_menus(items);
            clear_all_content();
            add_current_menu(elem);
            show_content(elem.dataset.id);
            pause = true;
            clear_all_timeouts();
        });

        // start loop again.
        elem.firstChild.addEventListener('mouseleave', () => {
            pause = false;
            myLoop();
        });
    };

    // If hovering over contents, pause.
    let contents = document.querySelectorAll(".rotator-content");

    contents[0].addEventListener('mouseenter', () => {
        pause = true;
        clear_all_timeouts();
    });

    contents[0].addEventListener('mouseleave', () => {
        pause = false;
        myLoop();
    });

    function add_current_menu(elem) {
        elem.classList.add("current");
    }

    function clear_all_menus(items) {
        for (let item of items) {
            item.classList.remove("current");
        }
    }

    function clear_all_content() {
        content = document.querySelectorAll(".rotator-content > div");
        for (let item of content) {
            item.classList.add("hidden");
        }
    }

    function show_content(id) {
        content = document.querySelectorAll(".rotator-content ."+id);
        content[0].classList.remove("hidden");
    }

    function clear_all_timeouts() {
        const highestId = window.setTimeout(() => {
            for (let i = highestId; i >= 0; i--) {
                window.clearInterval(i);
            }
        }, 0);
    }

    // Loop through each menu item.
    var i = 0;
    function myLoop() {
        if (!pause){
            setTimeout(function() {
                clear_all_menus(items);
                clear_all_content();
                add_current_menu(items[i]);
                show_content(items[i].dataset.id);
                i++;
                if (i == items.length) { i = 0; }
                if (i < items.length) { myLoop(); }
            }, 5000)
        }
    }
    myLoop();
